Sash Window Restorers

Hello,

Just had a prohibitively expensive quote to replace a sash window and wondered if anybody based in the NorthWest (We are in Wigan) knows of any companies that restore them. I have tried a company called Ventrolla but after enquiring a week ago, nobody has got back to me.

Hello,
I saw this company doing the front bay window of a house down the road from me last week, at first I thought it was another UPVC firm ripping out; but they'd put the sashes to one side and seemed to be fitting some kind of draught seals around the boxes.
Must pop back to see how it looks now.
Anyway, they do exist!
PS I'm in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester; so they are relatively local.

Hi,

We had our Sash windows restored by those guys about 18 months ago. Some of the windows were in a bad way.

They did a good job and were quite reasonable compared to some quotes we had. They replaced parts that were rotting, re-weighted and refitted so that they opened/shut smoothly and draught proofed all of them. They also fitted locks and finger handles as well.

I'm so glad we had them restored and not ripped out and replaced with Upvc.

Hi, It does not have to be a company, you could just look up Joiners or Carpenters in the Yellow pages etc...

I got a Carpenter to do mine and anyone with good woodworking skills can do it.

So don't narrow your search for specialist companies.

It is not rocket science I agree, but I'm sure not everyone can restore sash windows.

It takes some knowhow and craftsmanship to replace rotting timbers, re-cord, re-weight, draughtproof and carpentary work to ensure that the sashes glide smoothly.

We wanted a quality job done - quickly.
