Sash cord near NR17

Anyone know where I might be able to purchase some sash cord on a Saturday AM in Norfolk (near Norwich)? One of our cords snapped today and I was hoping to decorate the windows this weekend - now need to find some cord as I'd rather not decorate and then have to re-cord.

I'm assuming that the DIY sheds don't stock sash cord?

We're proper posh and have TWO branches of Screwficks in Norwich now - one at Mile Lane near the Airport AND one on the Hall Road trading estate.
Now I have twice as much chance of finding half the things I want are out of stock but can be available tomorrow

I worked out recently that the cost in fuel of a round trip to SF was only about £1 less than the delivery charge so I don't make a special trip any more.
I see they're now showing local stock info on the web site too which is a big improvement!

I'm much the same, but the trip to the trade counter was always prompted more by my being disorganised and not having enough time to wait for a next day parcel delivery!

My new workplace has both a Screwfix and a Toolstation just round the corner - within 100 yards of each other - which is rather handy.

Yes, they are but last week I made a special trip to their Oxford branch after checking the website and found that the item was not actually in stock so I had suffered the Oxford traffic for no benefit, quite apart from the waste of fuel and time :evil: . When I got home, the website still showed stock of one. They gave me some incomprehensible story about computers and adjusting stock levels. Why can't they just say they have screwed up? The moral is to not rely on low stock levels being correct; even if I had pre-ordered it, I reckon the computer would have allowed that as it thought there was one!

I used to do part time work in retail and 'ghost stock' in the computer is always a problem - you get an item in but it's damaged or faulty or someone exchanges it with a customer and skips doing the stock work - plus that old favourite - it grows legs and walks out of the stock room into the back of a van.

The Norwich store used to let me check stock over the phone but not reserve the item which meant fewer wasted trips but always a vague sense that I might arrive and see the thing I wanted leaving with another customer.

I've found (in the past) that a strong expression of disappointment at the lack of stock can get the manager to arrange for the item to be delivered to your home next day waiving the delivery charge. It doesn't help if you need it then and there but it does at least cost you nothing extra. Certainly if you've checked the stock level online and made a special trip I'd ask them to sort it out.

I wish I had Thorns down the road but the cost of parking at St. Stephens is viscous. Acle has an excellent little hardware store called Wilkersons who are often able to help me out though.

I forgot to mention - Thorns will deliver.

Heavy things like water-softener salt arrive at our door as a matter of routine, and they even delivered two giant water butts and the associated rainwater goods to my allotment.

Just to lob in a variation, when we had new sash windows made 30 years ago I used chain instead of cord. One needs special flat pulleys, but then it's fit and forget. And if you paint the staff bead separately and fix it with screws instead of nails, the sashes are easily removed if necessary.
