Hi All,
One of my fireplaces has a large sandstone lintel. My intention is to remove the brick infill underneath it, plaster around it and leave the lintel exposed. We will be installing a concrete lintel above the sandstone one for support, as the sandstone lintel has a crack down the middle (which is only surface deep).
Can anyone advise how to make the sandstone lintel look nicer? The dark patches I believe are some kind of adhesive which no amount of sanding with abrasive disks is shifting. And there's also the cracks which need filling in.
Or should I somehow take the face of the sandstone away down to the depth of the crack this removing the crack and the adhesive...if so, how would I do this?
Thanks!
