Sanding lime plaster

Can you sand lime plaster - for example if a corner where lime plaster has been applied is sharp and crisp can you sand it to make it softer and more rounded? TIA

We have but very carefully.

Depends on how it carbonated - and how fully, sometimes you seem to have a hard surface 'shell' and it's much more crumbly underneath. Also depends on the hair/fibre content, you could end up with a lot of stray strands sticking out.

Gently test the least visible area first.

thanks - I think it will be a while before gently sanding corners is gong to come into play - the list of things to do just seems to steadily grow. :shock: But given the chance I may experiment in an out of the way place.

I'd be very careful, the deeper coats, float and scratch have much larger aggregates and potentially crumble off in large chunks along with the hair.

How old is the plaster? If it is fairly recent can you sponge it very gently to round it off?

It's rather old (around 20years possibly) - though I did have the same thought myself
