Need help!! re-rendered two internal walls and then plastered I have noticed some salting coming through the plaster any one any ides what may be causing this.
Salting occurs when moisture inside the walls evaporates from the surface. I imagine the moisture is the result of the rerendering and replastering so once the wall has dried and the moisture has left the salting will stop. If on the other hand there is moisture getting into the wall somehow, the salting issue will continue.
As an example, I removed some drywalling in my house, exposing a damp wall underneath. It produced some wonderful salting (30mm long strands) over a couple of months as it dried. Once the wall had dried out though, the salting stopped. The same thing occurred when I removed the bath. Lots of salting for a couple of months and then it stopped.
I thought that may be the answer an just wait an see for now...but I do fear that moisture is getting in to the wall somehow!! I will see what happens over the next couple of months
