Roof Survey

Hi,

Have just had survey back on 1840's property which was converted from old school in 1980's and survey indicates concern re shoddy work on lead lined roof gullies and general state of the roof, does anyone have any recommendations for good roofer (period property sympathetic) with specialist lead work experience preferable in Cornwall! Property is roughly in between Truro and Falmouth. Any help most gratefully received.

I can't help you with any recommendation but I suggest that you inform yourself about leadwork before you deal with any workman and discuss the job/s.
Many lead workers will offer less than satisfactory solutions (albeit perhaps be aware of the correct methods) and it is to your advantage to know something/alot about leadwork first.

Zinc is sometimes an alternative to lead in certain situations too.

Thanks Lime handily my father is a lead work specialist but sadly too far away and too decrepit but obviously I have his advice but it's a good local roofer that I need so I can get an idea of costs to put things right before proceeding further with purchase. Anyone local to Cornwall have any recommendations? I will check out your suggestions though so I am more familiar with the terminology and methods.

I know Peter Scolley from just lead is in Cornwall. I think he only makes up the leadwork to sell, but he probably knows someone near you. If you google justlead his site has some good videos for leadwork as well. He is always willing to give you advice. He told me how to do a ridge abutment rather than sell me one.
