Roof Coating

Well whoever is left, can you give me some guidance.

As some will know I own a 6 storey windmill, hence the roof is quite high-up and very exposed to all the fens can throw at it.

The roof was constructed in 1989 and is made of ply and coated with Synthaprufe to form a dome shape. It is coming to the end of its life and will need another coating of the same or something similar. Now I don’t want to be up there doing this again in the next 15 - 20 years. Can anyone give me a product that I can apply that should last until I pop my clogs.

Hope to have another 40 years plus ahead of me, but who knows?

There is, of course, a weight issue that would need to be addressed. But if the structure would stand it, I reckon it would see you and your grandchildren out!

Well that is an option , but I was thinking of something I could paint on.

I agree with penners as lead would provide a long term solution, but I can also understand from a cost perspective how a paint on solution would be preferred.

Have a read of this article. It concerns the re-roofing of a windmill and may provide some important back-up if listed building consent is required for the new roof :

Has anybody got any idea what a traditional windmill roof is made from - perhaps tar was used?

They would be shortcuts , you would use these by pressing the ALT key on your keyboard, together with the corresponding letter.....

Thanks, Moreteyne - I understand the use of Alt+? shortcuts, but I was wondering what that one does. However, I have just decided on the empirical route, and it turns out that it does the same as clicking the URL button. A somewhat superfluous duplication, perhaps![/url]

I save the syntax in a word document and just use copy and paste for the URL, followed by copy and paste of the whole lot into the post...

Goodness knows how many times I've used it, I've never typed it out so would never be able to remember it either!!

The good thing about using it, is it stops the page formatting going haywire like this one has, so no scrolling over the page!!

No - I can see full width. What resolution are you running your display at?

1024x768 on a 19" monitor.

I run my flat panel at 1280 x 1024, and I can see the full width. If the site has been badly coded, I suppose at a lower resolution you might lose some of the width, but I'd be astonished if this hasn't been catered for in the HTML.

It might be a good idea to report your problem to Simon Wright or Rob Tavendale.
