God felt so sorry for this poor, hard working and religious eathling chap in his quest to feed and shelter his large family that he ( could have been an "it" or a " she", who knows ) decided to grant him a wish to " ease" his pains. One day, as the poor fellow was praying in his church God manifested his intentions to the poor man.
The man, completely shocked and trembling, asked if God could make his journey to work a little easier. Being a regular jet traveller earning his living by crossing continents and totally scared of flying, he asked god if he could build a few transatlantic bridges so he could drive and make his life easier.
God informed him that he could definetely grant him whatever he desired but also advised him if in the harsh approach for his needs had considered the implication this would have on the rest of humanity due to the colossal scale of raw materials required, God suggested something more practical to suit his and his family needs that would not affect other earthly life.
Having apologised for his selfish behavior the man asked God if he could advise him as to how to eradicate this really terrible damp at the base of his 16th C. cottage without using any of the contemporary " modern" materials.
God went quiet for a while then replied
" Do you want 2 or 4 lines on these bridges"
