Considering the Caltongate Masterplan has at its core the demolition of listed and conservation area buildings, it's not my idea of sustainable!

More campaigning today via the Scotsman. This endangers the World Heritage Site status of Edinburgh, and UNESCO is to be asked to monitor the situation.

The title of this thread is a little bit misleading.

RICS is running a CPD event for members looking at the issues surround the Caltongate Masterplan. The event isclassified as one looking at sustainability. However, it should not be taken that RICS supports the plan or that RICS has a policy that equates sustainability with demolition - it doesn't!

As it happens I have absolutely nothing to do with the event, but I will pass onto the organisers the concerns raised.

Thank you Stephen - I fully appreciate that an event doesn't mean support, and of course not all at RICS believe sustainabilty equals demolition, but I do feel that people should be made aware that Caltongate involves demolition of listed buildings and conservation area buildings in sound repair, and this is a World Heritage Site, and it's not good news!

Sadly, Mountgrange has a PR firm which is working overtime on this, the same one which was exposed in the press and on telly last year for certain unsavoury practices.

Its big cheese in Scotland was the person who drove this development through when leader of the council... which job he no longer holds... so his friends at Mountgrange, rather than see him unemployed, snapped him up...
