Could anyone give advice on how to restore flagstones please? We have an early Victorian cottage. The flags have been covered at some time in levelling cement. We're slowly chipping it away. I believe the flags have been laid directly on to earth. We would like to clean and seal them then get the floor to a nice shine so the floor will be a feature but not sure how to start!!

Hi Wend and welcome to PPUK.
I used Joce's advice and used Liberon floor cleaner on my stone flags followed by 3 coats of stone floor sealer and 2 coats of stone floor wax, a bit of a faff but well worth it.
I've since heard that full fat milk can be used but i've never tried that method :shock:

Hi Wend - welcome to the forum
I don't know any way of getting cement off except the laborious manual way that you are doing it (with which it is easy to damage the surface). I would guess that if the flagstone is very wet underneath then it might help the separation of the cement from the stone (which is what happens when people use a thin layer of cement on pointing etc).
However, if you look like succeeding, you might want to think of the next step. Most agents that give you a shine will also reduce or prevent breathability (much like cement!). Does your cottage have any damp problems, and have you only recently moved in? Or has it already been modernized?
