My property was built around 1880 and is red brick and lime cement. Over the years various sections of brickwork have been "repointed" with portland cement. The portland cement looks unsightly and in some areas has fallen off so I have been able to repoint with lime mortar. I would like to repoint all these areas eventually but I've read that it's not a good idea to forcefully remove the new portland cement where it is firm as I may damage the brickwork.
The question is do I repoint when and where I can in bits or do I wait until a whole "section" is ready to do
Thanks
