Hi all,
We're in the process of applying to have our external back door replaced. For context, the door is a modern addition in a 19th century extension to our grade II listed house, the majority of which was built in 1707 (hoping that makes sense!).
Current door is of a stable type, the top half of which contains 9 glazed panels. This is set in a timber frame with an arched head. Ideally, we would like to replace with a door that contains a glazed element as our kitchen can get very dark. The house itself was a farmhouse and was split in two in the 20th century. We'd like it to be sympathetic and, crucially, get it passed by the CO. But, as you can imagine, finding door inspiration for a glazed vernacular farmhouse door is proving difficult. Most examples we see are modern; existing examples are fully panelled doors with no glazing.
We've sought advice from Historic England but they've just passed us on to our local CO. And whilst they have advised to an extent through the pre-application system, they haven't specified any details they'd like us to abide by. So we're a bit stuck. Any advice is therefore greatly welcome!
