Removal of plaster stain from beams

Iv recently remove the modern ceiling from my main room in our 17th C cottage to reveal the old beams.
After having them cleaned and oiled we put plaster infills panels between the beams.

My problem is, some of the beams are now covered in plaster from the plastering.

Does anyone know of a way to remove plaster from the timber or cover it up?

We have found that a scraper and a brass suede wire brush works well for plaster. Tougher if it is gypsum though.

I used a sharp chisel as a scraper.

From painful experience, best way is to make sure plasterer knows he will be removing any splashes before commencement.

Otherwise elbow grease and a brass brush, I also found fingernails were great for picking out those stubborn bits. Good job we are not immaculately groomed in Somerset!
