Hello All
I’ve recently purchased a Grade 2 listed period property and have been finding this website an invaluable source of information so thank you to all those who contribute.
Please see picture attached. I have recently pulled out heavily painted wooden cladding that surrounded the internal walls of one of the bedrooms. Behind the cladding as you can see the beams are all white. It was all damp everywhere. I have black and white photos of the room from the early 50’s so I know it’s been on at least since then. The beams have been insect attacked quite heavily in some areas. Some beams will need repairs and I have a couple of timber framed conservation tradesman coming in next week to have a look at what needs to be done there.
I’m trying to put a plan together for putting wall back together. The outside of the house is rendered with years of plastic waterproof paint applied to the outside of the house.
The horsehair plaster has all come detached from the inside. Do I need to replace this with lime plaster? Or can I just leave it as it is and put sheep’s wool insulation in place?
Should I lime plaster, then sheep’s wool insulation, then wood wool board, then lime plaster to finish?
Any help much appreciated, I’m on a steep learning curve at the moment, but want to get things right.
