Reinstatement of walls

I have a 17th Century cottage that used to be a Village shop.

The problem is now I have conservation approval to replace the shop windows with casements (6 Months); what do I fill the large window voids in with?

The walls are a right mishmash where the shop windows are: disintegrating single wattle and daub panel, single and 9”course brick to the wood frame.

I wish to lime plaster, so rather than removing the existing, is there a solution to build in some type of bricks or blocks to create the new window openings?

My advice would be to find an architect with conservation expertise to draw up some plans, which will also comply with building regs.

For a smallish job it shouldn't cost too much, and then you have some decent plans and ideas to work with.

Hi thanks for the reply; not sure about up loading pics as yet, not looking for architect at moment.
My predicament is now conservation have given approval for new casements, I have been looking for a good alternative to filling a large area where old shop windows are to come out 3m x 1.8m and I am going to replace with 1.2 x 0.9m windows.

Do I build up with brick, concrete block, aircrete block (Ive been told is a good compromise in an old house would be aircrete and lime render.
And then build an internal insulated cavity.

As a rule of thumb use similar or same materials with regard to density and strength as existing walls.

If your cottage is of timber construction with infill panels, some movement will occur and if you use very rigid infills cracks will appear. Insulated timber stud walls is more appropriate.

If you have a solid construction, soft bricks and lime mortar, then rebuild as existing.
