Recommended Insurance Compaines For Empty Property?

Hello,

Does anyone know of a good and reasonably priced insurance company which will cover my property whilst work is being carried out? The work should take 3-4 months and the property will be empty in this time.
The property is Grade II listed and the work is to replace the ground floor floors which have been extensively damaged by dry-rot infestation.

Any help would be much appreciated; so far some of the quotes I have been receiving are crazy!

I can't help you with insurance but please make sure you have read through the older threads on dry rot and damp. You will find that curing the damp will cure the dry rot and that it isn't necessary to spray everywhere with poisonous chemicals nor necessary to remove perfectly good timber. Curing the damp is also unlikely to need injected DPCs or tanking, both of which will make matters worse.

I am sure you know all of that anyway but it's worth pointing out before you waste a lot of money on unnecessary work. If you have questions then please ask.

we are using self build zone i think , we are just awaiting a call back from them. £785 we have been quoted and thats for a lot of renovations , roof , floors ,re plumb etc etc in a 16c thatched cottage with a 350k rebuild cost.

I used self build zone twice, each time on a 2 year policy cost around £1000 a year for £500k buildings cover to existing structure and a similar amount for work in progress, liability, contract works cover, tools cover and found them exceptional value for money.

Thanks for the reply's and I think the renovation package offered by SelfBuildZone looks like what I need Any other suggestions would be most welcome though.

We've been with Self-build Zone for about 7 years now. They're policies are very comprehensive and, most importantly, written in English so they're easy to understand

My house had to be empty 70 percent of the time for 6-7 months, while I had to wait for my previous house to sell.

Rebuild costs - about £450k

Premium - about £460 (there was a discount I still don't understand, which could take it up to over £600)

Conditions included at least two visits per week. They are still fairly free-and-easy about door locks (etc)

You do have to be cautious with many empty property covers because it does not take long for them to be empty before they reduce the cover to flea cover, fire, lightening, explosion earthquake and aircraft.

This is pretty un-comprehensive cover really and best avoided.

Probably would be better to get a site policy and go and tinker now and again whilst empty .
