reclaimed skirts

Hi,

I have a victoria flat in llandudno, i am currently try to restore it, but im having terrible trouble trying to find skirting that match some of the old one, has anyone any idea where i might find some or have them made for my as they are quite decorative, any help would be gratefully recieved.

High skirting boards - particularly the more decorative, were often made of a number of pieces stacked on top of each other. If you look closely you may be able to see the joins. You may need to look for matching component parts rather than a whole matching board.

If you cannot by it off the shelf and specialist carpenter should be able to mould a replica from a piece of original - but it may cost you! The larger the quantity the cheaper it will be per metre - see if other flats in the house or road are after some as well.

Yes they are in different bit, another question sorry where do i start looking for thenm i have tried local wood yard but they dont seem to stock stuff like this any ideas and thank u again for ure quick reply

Sorry, without knowing the area it is hard to say. You need a decent timber yard - rather than a Jewsons or DIY store.

We are lucky where we live to have a yard with a massive stock of almost every size a shape you would want and who can make things to order.

Try the yellow pages, ask around - maybe the local CO could advise you if you asked very nicely.

You make be lucky a get reclaimed stuff at a local reclamation yard - the carpenter who worked on your place probably worked on other buildings in the area.

Finally - keep you eye out for skips on you road - there may be some arse ripping the stuff out and throwing it away - ask permission though before you go skip raiding.

Also try a local supplier of wooden floors. If they machine any of their own boards they probably make skirtings as well.

Take a sample to a joiner and ask if they can machine boards up to match.

The initial cost of setting up the cutters is the costly part - so get enough cut at once to do everything and more besides.

I have the name and address of a Joiner in Cardiff who will do anything of this sort for you, he is doing my unique skirts and dado rail for me.
