Reclaimed Kerb Step install

Hello All
i purchased a new step this week from a local relaimers.
i will be installing this where my old broken one way
as you can imagine its not perfectly flat.

What is the best process for installing a step, currently there are bricks at ground level where it will go. i was thinking a load of sand and cement and plonk it on top. is this the right thing to do or will the cement push out, it took four of us to lift in into a van

Little blocks or wooden wedges, remove when the cement / lime mortar has stiffened up, then fill the bits where the wood came out.

Sorry for being dense.
Do you mean under it or around it to stop so much coming out.
The thing is so heavy i hope it does not push all of the cement out, i will have to make a very thick mix.
Got this to put in and then i can carry on with buildnig the wall back up using the old bricks.

Under it, so it only sinks as far you want it to.

A picture speaks a thousand words, thank you so much.
Made me realise how simple it should be. The new old step is very uneven so this way will make things easy for me to do.
Also the straps look great I will borrow an engine hoist from work then I can put it in place a few times to make sure I get my levels right.
