Rear door suggestions - 400 yr old stone cottage

We're looking to replace our 1950's back door with something more suitable, but struggling for ideas as rear doors are rarely shown on Prime Location ads. for listed buildings. Would like to have some glazing if possible to let the light through unless that is deemed completely unsuitable. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

You'll most probably need LBC to replace your door so the first step would be to get pre-application advice from the Conservation department. Hopefully, they'll be able to suggest suitable options that would pass the approval process.

Probably something that looks like ledge and brace from the outside, i.e. vertical planks rather than panelled.

Leather strap hinges rather than iron?

How about a ledge-and-brace stable door, with a modest-sized window in the top half?

Or, you could have an original period "double" planked door, ie- The external oak planks placed tightly in a vertical position with the inner planks placed tightly in an horizontal position and the whole lot tightly studded ( nailed ) together, add to this some custom made heavy duty iron hingies with an old fashioned lock and key and you will end up with a proper jail proof door.
( just another option if you are looking for originality)

Would like to go for Middi's suggestion, but don't like the idea of opening my rear door without being able to see who's behind it and a little bit of extra light would be helpful.
So. we#re considering something like this.
Let's see if we can afford to have it made.

Here's my front door which is based on a traditional Irish door...





We opted for a simple style of glass in the door as bullions can be a bit twee in my mind although that hasn't stopped me using some in the parlour door... I've just noticed how those modern light switches look out of place.

Lovely door DJH. Only reservations we have with regard to a stable type door are around security. It looks like your house has a second final exit door from your photos whereas ours would be the only exit door.

Yes, there is another door which is a porch I added to give us some bad weather protection as the inner door once opened to the elements. The porch door is a half door as well. We have a preference for this type of door as we can keep out our animals yet let in sunlight (?) and air. We have twice the number of locks on the inner door as you would on a standard full-size door with a cylinder lock and rim lock top and bottom and a bolt to secure the top door to the bottom one.
