Hi,
I've recently exposed the original fireplace in my living room and the brickwork of the chimney brest. (its a c. 1900 victorian terrace, stone faced external skin, but red brick internal.)
I'm going to leave the brest as exposed brickwork, but the pointing is a bit messy and has come out in parts, so I'm going to re-point.
Been reading lots and lots of information on re-pointing, but can't seem to find any info on internal pointing. I'm also not sure what the existing pointing is made up of, seems too hard for lime?
So.. Should what material should i be using lime, NHL, sand and cement with lime..... And what mix is appropriate internally.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
