Re pointing gable ends of a rendered cottage

Hello everyone.

We have a 1855 cottage which has been very well maintained over the years by the previous owners but we have noticed that the gable ends from the attic look somewhat in need of some TLC

As it is rendered we would be unable to do it from the outside. Is this a problem?

Please excuse my ignorance! We are new to owning an older house, although I have always grown up in ancient houses which is what drew us to this one which is full of character and charm.

Doesn’t look too bad to me. It’s not particularly pretty but who cares if it’s up in the loft? None of the stones look out of place or loose, it looks dry, etc. What exactly makes you think it needs repointing done?

The interior skin of a double skin brick wall is often a bit ramshackle, my understanding is the apprentice would often be charged with this. The exterior skin will likely be in far better shape.
