My cottage had its upstairs ceilings raised in the 60s. The original plaster board has no foil backing and rusty ungalvanised nails, quite a few are loose. There was not loft insulation installed. Jump forward 40 years, I have had the cottage re-reroofed and have put in 150mm of glass fibre as insulation. Now having started to do up the main bedroom, first problem, the hessian plasterboard tape has come loose,so ripping this down, 99% of the plaster skim coat comes of as well.
So do I just screw up new foil backed plaster board with longer screws or do I take the old down cos then the insulation and a lot of rubbish will come down too?
Please Mr Moderator, I won't put on another plaster board topic ever!
