I have seen a multifuel Rayburn on ebay and made an offer. He has counter offered so it is now available to me for a short period for £2,250.00. It comes with new insulated stainless steel flue, approx 5 meters. The flue has only been used for one season.
Looking at other similar models on ebay this is quite a good price.
I currently have a very large oil boiler, electric cooker and cast iron stove thing (small) in the living room.
The blurb says it will provide hot water, central heating and cooking. It can use wood or coal. It doesn't seem to get as hot with wood and I am wondering if it will be capable of providing everything we need. I don't want to use coal.
Or do I need to keep my oil boiler and link it all together and just use oil to supplement it?
How do people cope with feeding it all the time to keep the house warm and cook? It seems to need planning for cooking as you divert the heat but does this mean that the heating goes off whilst cooking?
Finally how do I manage to cook in summer? I have an immersion heater for the water, would I have to keep the electric cooker too? Really confused.
