Rayburn conversion

We are looking at buying a rayburn royal that has been converted to oil. We would like to convert it back to solid fuel but are wondering how to make sure the bottom door is air tight. A "v" has been cut out to allow for the oil pipe but once this has been removed we will need to fill in the "v" with something. Anybody done it or any idea's? Thanks for helping.

I'm not familiar with this particular range - what is the V cut out of? If it's a metal component, you could get a welder to build the metal back up again, then grind it back to the original shape.

If the metal is cast iron, make sure the welder is a specialist in this material.

If I were you I would look out for a replacement door - maybe a second hand one can even match the colour of your cooker. Do a google search on Rayburn refurbishers - an object this sort of weight could be posted to you.
