Rat holes in cobb walls

Our house has cobb (earth ) walls at the gable ends. Over the years the walls have been invaded by rats ( there are several fresh nests in the cobb ). We are repairing the holes,and want to know what to cap the cob with to prevent reinfestation can anyone help

Stella - I have seen plenty of rat damage to cob but have never had to deal with an on going problem. Broken glass has always been the traditional approach. I once had problems with mice getting in under an old oak sole plate so I pointed up the holes with 50/50 lime mortar/finely broken glass. The mice appear to have given up!
You may be able to solve your problem with the same approach - worth a try I think. Mike.

The rats are ongoing because there is a large corn store within a stones throw of our house. Stella.
