I've posted on several occasions about this before but I'm getting really mad now - when it rains a lot (as of course it has been for weeks!) cars splash the muddy puddles in the kerb up our house and it's coming under the door constantly. I've repainted and repaired the door twice in 5 years; we've got good draughtproofing etc but clearly our floorboards and the joist underneath in the cellar are starting to rot. The new wooden threshold bit looks like it's already on its last legs after just 3 years. It really annoys me that people drive so fast (should be max 30mph - I drive at 20 in our street usually with the car behind right up my bum so to speak) and so close to the kerb. From a road safety point of view, you'd think they'd realise that if they had to swerve or brake they could end up in the houses or mowing down a pedestrian! Today I opened the front door - got drenched by a passing car and the water went all up a section of hall wall and despite wiping it up, I know it will stain (seems to be a feature of my F&B Radicchio paint).
Anyway, I'll write to the relevant authorities to see if they can do something about the drains but any other suggestions? I remember someone suggesting before about investigating whether we could get a grille or something set in the pavement so the water soaks away but I'm not sure how feasible that is or what it would cost. I was seriously considering something a neighbour at the bottom of the hill has - they've been flooded a few times so when the rain is bad, they put up a sort of heavy duty plank thingy at the door. I know it's a trivial matter in the grand scheme of things but I hate the permanent puddle and mud etc in our hallway and more importantly, the damage it is doing to the house - especially as it could be avoided if drivers drove more carefully. I left the wheelie bin in front of the door today as it was bin day and that's helped a bit but not very fair on pedestrians as they then have to walk closer to the kerb and get drenched by passing cars!
Juju - feeling better after a little rant
