Quick question about waxing

OK, so I've started some of the wood in my house with Liberon Liquid Wax. The first bit I'm doing is the surround over the Rayburn. I'm going to need 2-3 coats but my question is this; do I need to buff it up between coats or just when the final coat is on? I'm hoping it's the latter!!

By the way, doing this has highlighted another excellent use of the Rayburn - warming up the wax on a freezing cold morning. It makes it lovely and runny, instead of solid, and makes it far easier to get out of the tin and apply in thin coats

Yes, the Rayburn is great for warming waxes (floor polish, shoe polish, Barbour wax)... but hang a big sign on the stove to remind yourself!

Unfortunately I forgot about a can of red tile polish that I had put in the bottom oven of the switched-off and cooling Rayburn. The next day when the oven was up at full temperature it had boiled over and seeped down into the structure of the stove...

Fortunately, I didn't put mine in the oven. I just sat the tin on top, on a cloth, and kept shaking it now and then. I have left food in the Rayburn before though I only smelt it burning when I went outside :lol:

In the absence of any reply, I've gone for the latter ie no buffing between coats. It seems to be working ok.

Don’t know about the liquid wax but the instructions on my tin of beeswax (semi solid) advises to apply with a lint free cloth, leave for at least 4 hours, buff to a sheen and then repeat process if necessary i.e. if wood is very dry. It then advises to finally buff the finished product further with a brush..

Thanks, Michael, for your reply. Unfortunately, it's going to take me months to do all my wood and that's without buffing between coats :shock: I now have two different areas, with two coats on, with no buffing in between and they're looking good so it may be that buffing is an option, which is just as well :roll:

Anyway, thanks again. Once I get some pictures uploaded, I'll post a couple showing the difference just in case anyone's interested.
