There isn't much point in using PVA over limecrete really - the whole point of limecrete surely is that it is vapour permeable?

From that I assumed a breathable priming/bonding agent was requested.

Is this a semantics discussion then? A PVA 'type' I took to mean a plastic type 'primer'. That's not very breathable really.
The people to talk to about limecrete are those whose products are being used - not all suppliers recommend the same things.

I believe what Jacs is looking for is for something "like PVA" to kill the suction when the new lime is put on to the old.
Solution 1 - Just use water to damp old lime and allow to soak for a while (15 to 30mins??)
Solution 2 - Coat with weak lime wash (1:4 lime putty, water) allow to dry. Coat with normal lime wash (1:1 lime putty, water) allow to partially dry (30 mins ??)

Wet the surface first to kill the suctions and, if you're laying a screed or a bed for tiles, brush over the surface with a weak limewash just before you add the screed/bed. Don't use any other bonding agent or you'll negate one of the main functions of the limecrete floor.

better to use 'limewater' - the water on top of unstirred limewash in tubs - limewash proper would provide a layer less likely able to allow subsequent adhesion.
