I know that PPUK and recreational housework don't necessarily belong in the same sentence, but...

Having fettled up the central heating to the point that it almost functions acceptably, I now notice that the (modern) radiators are pretty well clogged up with what would, in the local vernacular, be termed "oose* and stoor". I am tempted to get the workshop vacuum onto it set to "blow"... However, I suspect that the Memsahib might not appreciate ten years of dust and rabbit-moultings blown throughout the rest of the house.

Any tips on how to clean out between all these fins between the two faces of the radiator?

*oose (rhymes with moose, loose and hoose) is the fibrous, fluffy portion of household dust and the word derives from the plural of oo, an old Scots word for wool.

Reckon so. I've come to think that if you're not getting a bucketful of dirt out every time you clean then you're doing it too often.

I cleaned the ones in our house with a toothbrush and two plastic soup containers ( one for clean slightly soapy water, one for rinsing water ). Dunk, scrub, rinse, repeat. Note, put old towel on floor under said rad to absorb stray drips of dirty water.

Not very cool but I think every household needs a battalion of brushes. We have 9ft long handled feather dusters, bottle brushes and one of these radiator brushes which is very good:

I was recently delighted to find a painting pad whose handle slots onto an extending pole, and that's brilliant for cleaning the inward curved lip of the cornice without even standing on a chair.

Love that word oose!

We've got a radiator brush like that. It's very good for loose dust; use it with a vacuum cleaner nozzle nearby!
The bristles are so soft that it's not great for use on the kind of grime we seem to have all over our new house's radiators though. For that I have had to resort to the toothbrush method.
In theory, I'll be able to keep them clean with the special brush from now on, but I expect that by the time I can be bothered again, all the muck and dust will be baked on once more!
