Quarry tiles and red brick floor

Does anyone know if it’s possible to take up red bricks re level the ground and place them back down again. I would like to keep the red bricks and quarry tiles as this will be a boot room but as you can see from the photo part of the floor has sunk. Is it as simple as lifting them putting some sand down and placing the bricks back down or more complicated than this? Old farm house, grade 2 listed built late 17C.

Usually much more complicated.

They’re not bricks, but pavers / paviours, basically tiles in that they are thinner and have a fired top surface. They can be very fragile and prone to cracking when lifted. They will likely be various thicknesses making relaying tricky, plus any surface wear also reduces their strength. And certainly IF they were relaid, they’d need to go back in the same locations so the surfaces worked and showed their history.

Are you sure they’ve ‘sunk’ given tell be bedded on earth, seems unlikely, especially in such a uniform pattern. Old doorway / hearth / base for a copper or some other feature? The entire floor looks to be made of a selection of differing pavers, from different sections / eras.

Thank you for your reply, yes I think you could be right. It could have had something stood there at some stage, there is blocks of concrete and lots of different kind of bricks / tiles in this room. I think I will try and clean them up and see if we can keep the character of them.
I have only ever known carpet over them growing up, but when I look the carpet up just before Christmas it was all damp. Dried out now so I really don’t want to put anything back down over it.
