Well, we finally moved in 3 weeks ago - Former farmhouse in herefordshire, and probably about 1840 ish with lots and lots for my wife and i to do over the next 10-20 years!
We are "new" to old houses as our oldest house prior to this one was 1982! so much of the tasks we are going to do are new to us.
Here goes for number 1 - quarry tiles.
Kitchen has Red tiles - pitted and damaged in places, but still appealing. i got some liquid polish (Tableau) for them but really need to strip back all the paint like finish so that all of floor gets the same treatment. i used the polish remover reccommended (Tableau) but it had little effect on the existing finish.
Do i need to attack the floor with a wire brush to get it off so i can start the whole polishing process again?
Also we looked under the axminster in the breakfast room to find more quarry tiles ina a black/red chessboard pattern - these are not "painted" and have been covered by carpet for many years. Worth refurbishing? or too cold? Would i really have to hand polish each tile one at a time to prevent the coloured polish mixing. Has anyone else out there done this?
Thanks in anticipation of any replies.
