Putty for oak window?

I need to putty a pane of glass into a south-facing oak frame, will not be varnished, just left to its own devices.
I've used Stainframe in the past, but that was varnished.

Normal linseed putty left uncoated will soon perish... silicone (arrrgh) degrades with uv.... are there any viable alternatives?

I used this 30+ years ago to bed some sealed units* (mea culpa I knew no better) into mahogany sashes. Couldn't keep paint on it and got fed up with trying, but even unprotected on south facing, it did not degrade. Found an old tube while tidying, and amazingly, it is still in production.
I reckon it will outlast me, bedding my little bit of glass into bare oak.

I also reckon I could use it to bed glass into stone mullions, although when used to create a face bead it is pretty much impossible to get a decent finish, so best reserved for upper floors.

PS * and the one-inch sealed units did not mist, although newer half-inch units in bead glazing in the conservatory, certainly did.

Not in this case.
The frame is rebated from the back, and the glass is not flat. You may have know that old glass with chicken wire embedded in it, wavy both sides.
This adds up to a recipe for rotting the frame unless the bed betwixt glass and frame is sealed.

When made in 1902 (it is dated), the window was in a porch, I would think, at any rate not exposed to the weather as it will be now.

The glass was in it. I should post a pic, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with various stuff atm. It's an odd arrangement, almost like a window within a window, as if they had a break-in perhaps, and made it more secure by putting in this smaller piece of chickenwire glass. It wasn't bedded, as found, probably because it was under a porch. The glass was - and is - secured at the back with oak bead.

I bought it on eBay ??two/three years ago, only by serendipity did I find it would fit in the new garage, I hadn't even unwrapped it before suddenly remembering that I bought it and even miraculously remembering where I'd stored it.
So many things I've bought but will never use, nice when one actually makes the grade.
