Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

There's a Traditional Building Skills & Craft Fair being held at Corfe Castle in Dorset on Sat 16th and Sun 17th Sept. It is billed as "an event that brings together craftspeople, specialists conservation professionals and suppliers of traditional building materials" (I understand that even a slater is putting a display on!).

It is all being run by the National Trust who are also hosting two hands-on courses at around the same time; Fri 15th is devoted to "Conservation in Action" looking behind the scenes with architects, surveyors and archaeologists, while Sat 16th concentrates on the use of conventional lime mortars.

Yes Nemesis, that’s right a rarely seen ‘lesser spotted’ roof slater is expected to be demonstrating at Corfe at the weekend, astonishing isn’t it? Apparently, they are a breed apart and suitably qualified ones are as uncommon as hen’s teeth these days, so it is said! Glad I mentioned it, although it sounds as if a good deal of the hands-on part of the exhibition is largely focussing on lime and its uses in practical restoration/construction work, that will possibly be of much more interest to members of this forum.

So, go pick someone else’s brain live, captive, on the job and at it! Or, perhaps, show ‘them’ how it is done!

Are you actually attending the lime, conservation type course itself or doing a ‘groupie’ thing and finding out what you can, in a general interest sort of way?

I am just going there to nose about and check up on what’s happening.
