Does anybody have any advice on how to stop windows getting stuck shut with linseed paint whilst it is drying please? Even if we get a good summer, it seems to require the windows to be open for weeks to prevent them getting stuck which is not possible for obvious security reasons.
The one window I have successfully done with linseed paint is a modern one that has push-in plastic seals which I was able to remove during painting to leave a gap between the opening casement and the frame whilst it was drying. Even so, when I refitted the seals after many weeks of drying I found I had to dust them with talc to stop them sticking.
The windows I’m now about to paint are all old ones where the side-hung wood casement touches (in some places!) the other wood of the frame. The only thing I can think of doing is to unscrew the catches and temporarily refit them with spacers behind them to create a gap of a few mm. Has anyone got any other ideas please?
Thank you.
