PPUK Forum PHP upgrade problems

I've seen the message from Simon about the upgrade so this 'new feature' may be something that is already being addressed, but using Chrome as a browser I now see this -



It is working fine on IE, and so I'm using that at the moment, but I was wondering if other people are working OK with Chrome at the moment please?

Refresh your browser and it will hopefully go back to normal. It's caused by something (browser or ISP) caching the old style sheet.

It would also be possible to get around the problem if the style sheet could be renamed on the server - people with cheap ISPs could have the problem for a few days.

Thank you. I've just cleared all the Browser cache and history etc., and now it is working fine

This operation is known as a Ctrl-F5 refresh which causes the browser to send a command to the proxy server, telling the proxy server to delete it's cached copy and to re-download the page.

Yes my display cleared after I refreshed the screen.

Simon - that's a useful tip. Does it work with any browser, or only Chrome?

It will work with all browsers Penners. Only thing you need to watch out for is if your F5 key is a function key, which is can be on a laptop, so you have to (Fn F5 Ctrl), not so good for those who are no longer very dextrous

Pah...I just clicked on the thingy on the top left of the screen next to the magnifying glass whatsit which is sometimes a cross and other times a kind of circle with an arrow on it...it was a circle when I done it...

Simon - despite the upgrade, I still get random occurrences of the 'port 80' problem, which I click on the viewtopic link in your emails. The URL that tries to open in my browser (IE) is wwwdotperiodproperty.co.uk:80/forum/viewtop...etc This never works. So long as I then delete :80, it works fine. This symptom seems to happen from time to time, completely randomly.

It's an inconvenience rather than a major problem, but I wondered whether there's a solution to it.

Depending on your iOS version, a double tap on refresh or a long press on refresh should do the trick Unless you are still on an old version...

It's an old iPad but has been updated with the latest software version 9.3.5.

A long press of the browser refresh icon causes a 'Request Desktop Version' window to pop up. Have never noticed that before. Oh well, it's all working ok now.

If this is a problem caused by an outdated CSS or other web script, then this is nothing to do with your ISP, the file will be cached according to the HTTP headers it was served with.

However, it looks like a hard refresh does fix the problem.

The reason the big sites never suffer from this, is they know when to scale down the TTL (time to live) of cached resources before an update. However, for a small-scale site this is difficult to manage.

Also, this is nothing to do with whether you are running an old browser or device. Just do a hard refresh to fix the problem.
