Finally have the railings in place. Thought I would share some pics. Just a little bit of leadwork and carpentry required above the door and a couple more coats of limewash on the brickwork (patchy effect is the first coat still drying).

Thanks - this is Corical Lime...colour 2156. Very impressed with the product and would recommend it if anyone is ever considering limewashing.

Very nice indeed Pford. Is this a step back to what you know was there originally, or simpy removing a later alteration and installing something much more in keeping as the original details are unknown?

Very smart. Did you have the new railings made locally?

Feltwell- We know that there were railings either side of the steps as the stone treads had holes where the old set of railings were. We don't know what style they were, but there is a set of wrought iron gates on the driveway which are original and we have tried to match the style of the railings to the gates.

FF - Yes...we used Breckland gates and Railings at Snetterton. We were very pleased with their work.

It does look a lot better. Please post pictures again once the lump of wood and old lead flashing has gone! It was criminal to hide that fanlight - you must be getting a lot more light in your hallway as well.

Made the most of the sunny weekend to finish the painting around the porch and the leadwork etc. Am quite pleased with the end result.
