Hi all
I'm new to this forum. 4 years ago, we purchased a house in Flanders dating back to 1895 and we are slowly renovating it.
I have recently started repointing of an old brick wall (inside) which is part of the garage because the old lime mortar had completely crumbled. Based on what I read online and what was easily available, I chose to repoint this with St-Astier NHL 3.5 with a 1 - 2.5 ratio. I have now finished 10m² of the 20m² wall and upon reading further and learning more about lime products I was told that NHL 3.5 is too strong and a non hydraulic lime should be used. Should I now start over? Although I like the repointing work but I dread to start raking out the new lime mortar again ...
Extra information: this is an old brick wall which is not part of the main building. It bears the load of the garage's flat roof. There are traces of damp at the bottom but this could still be the result of the work of the previous owner who had put styrofoam against the walls and thus removing breathability. This wall will eventually be covered with hemplime insulation. The outside of this wall will probably need repointing too but I don't know the state of it because this is located in the neighbour's garden.
Thanks!
