I want to try and add a downstairs toilet to my house. It would need to tee into the existing cast iron soil pipe.
Every local plumber so far has told me that to achieve this I'd need to replace the cast iron pipe (either entirely or just the bottom meter) with a plastic one.
Do I?
What is the solution on listed buildings? Are the plumbers giving me this advice just out of a combination of economics and ignorance?
I've seen black plastic cast iron replica pipes - are these a good compromise or are they considered (as I suspect) the equivalent of having those wood effect uPVC doors and windows?
I have to say this pipe is at the back of the house, up the side return where nobody goes, and isn't really viewable from any window. All the guttering and downpipes are currently cheap black plastic and I wasn't thinking of replacing them any time soon.
