Plastering bead and lining paper

I am redecorating our Morning Room and have removed the old lining paper. The chimney breast has wooden dowel beads on the external corners (which were previously under the linen paper). Should I line over the beads or leave the exposed ie. Line up to them?

I do like the beading and the finish. The plaster doesn't 'touch' the bead....there is a small groove between plaster and bead. Will try to upload a photo later.

Any thoughts welcome

I had this in a Victorian house I used to live in. There, the lining paper went all the way round the corners, over the beading. I love corner beading. It makes a far more attractive corner than the sharp edge left nowadays.

I agree. I found the same thing - filled-in beads - on the soffit of my staircase. I restored mine and if I had a house grand enough to contain a Morning Room with such a feature I would restore it too.

On the subject of room nomenclature, I was playing Cluedo at the weekend using a modern set which my son had been given as a birthday present a year or two ago. The rope was plastic and the lead pipe wasn't made of lead but the worst horror was that the Drawing Room had been replaced with the Lounge. "Colonel Mustard with the revolver in the lounge" just doesn't have the right ring to it.

On this one I think that the wood in the walls was there for the sole purpose of having the bead attached to it, although I cannot see why the bottom one was so long. Others are short like the upper one.

All these were found in my hall, lounge and front bedroom, mostly covered by wallpaper with the groove filled in with modern plaster. They are one of the few interesting features and will certainly be retained when we re-plaster.

Another vote for exposing that feature, we have them in the arches here, they look lovely picked out in white.
