Plaster Suggestions Needed...

I'm in the process of stripping of some blown plaster in what will become a bathroom. There's only a few sections approx 1m square each which need to be stripped. Our builder has suggested putting up plasterboard, but i'm not so keen on the idea of covering up the wall and loosing a bit of space (albeit a small amount). I'm wondering what prep would be needed to re-plaster exposed sections before skimming over the top?

What's the plaster going to go on to?
What sort of plaster do you have now?

And is your house listed?

NB You might find that the area to be re-plastered grows when you strip it!

Thanks for the replies. The old plaster is lime plaster ontop of sandstone. The house isn't listed. On the sections i've taken back so far, i've managed to get back to secure plaster. If need's be i can take off the lot but if it's secure i'm not sure i need to?

Received wisdom suggests that lime plaster can be patched quite successfully, and should "heal" quite well.

I reckon your builder friend is probably nervous of (or ignorant of*) lime plastering techniques.

possibly not quite as straightforward as at some point it's been skimmed in something like an artex coat. My thinking was to repair the holes and then skim over everything. I don't know if that's feasible with lime or not?

I'm no expert on lime plaster but I don't think I would risk putting a lime plaster coat over Artex.

Dont want to worry you but some artex contains asbestos.
