Hello there
I wondered if anyone could please advise on the sort of lime mix that may have been used originally to form the external architrave/moulding around the window reveal on the outside of my Mum's terraced house c.1880?
I have stripped many layers of paint from a section to investigate the original material. In some parts (but not all) of the moulding a hard 'cement wash' looks to have been applied as a repair at some point, but the original material appears to be a dark brown colour, and is soft and very fine- ie the aggregate in the mix is hard to see or feel. I wonder if plaster of paris was ever used externally, in a mix with lime putty. I thought plaster of paris was usually white, although perhaps it could have been tinted when mixed?
Thank you
