Hi Folks, newbi here so hope its not bad form to start with a question.
I would like to purchase some reclaimed pine floorboarding to use in my kitchen. Any ideas as to what is a reasonable price to pay per square yard for reasonable quality sanded boards please? :?
I dont think Ive seen sanded reclaimed boards for sale. I suppose you've looked at Salvo ? its probably your best source of pricing info but dont forget delivery.
On the whole people buy reclaimed as it comes then do whatever prep work that they want. Many people would not want to sand the patina and character of the boards away.
If you want wide boards then there are supliers around - depends where you are.
I'd like to second that point about sanding. Far better just to give them a really good scrub to get rid of the dirt. If stuff like paint needs removing, do it with good old nitromors. Sanding is very much a last resort.
Prices vary. You pay more (per square metre) for longer, thicker or wider boards. Also depends on condition, plus some old boards are t&g but many are just planks.
If you're buying sanded have you comared to new boards from a local timber yard ? not b&q or one of the sheds but a proper timber yard?
The only stuff I have priced recently was for new oak boards 170mm face width, between 3m and 3.6m lengths at £34/sqr m (£39 for elm). so your pine looks cheap compared to that.
Sanding reclaim is not a very good idea, as it tends to expose the often wormed core, and with domestic boards it doesnt really achieve anything anyway. Meeting halls are more likely to sustain enough wear to warrant sanding. I wouldnt be looking for sanded reclaim in the first place. Washing is much quicker.
