persuing a career in period design and renovation

Dear All

I am interested in persuing a career in period design and renovation
and am due to graduate from the uniersity of London this coming
summer, at which point I will be looking for work in this industry.

I would therefore e grateful if you could inform me of any vacancies
in any roles you have from June 2010 onwards as I feel that by
working in this industry in any role will enable me to get a better
feel for the industry, and working within it.
If this is not possible any advice or information on this industry
would be gratefully received.

Your best first port of call would be the National Heritage Training Group (website here). You could apply to SPAB for one of their bursaries (details here), and also try the traditional building skills bursary scheme, which still has a year or so to run under Lottery funding. Details are here.

Preferably to work in london or the south/south east but i would be willing to travel if the right project / opportunity came up.

Top-notch advice from Gervase above. You might also consider applying to the National Trust for a volunteer job on one of their renovation projects.

I don't know whether such opportunities are available, but it won't do any harm to ask.
