Period weather forecast

Around here the ash is well ahead of the oak, which hasn't got so much as a hint of green yet. Wet summer ahead? What is happening in other parts?

I'm more concerned about the next couple of weeks. Roofer starts on Monday and the forecast is 'changeable'. Shame as the last month has been good around here.

The willow is growing like mad, but it always does that so isn't a good indicator of weather.

It's been spectacular weather in London. Clear blue skies and not cold. My barometer is indicating between "Fair and Set Fair" so looks like it may continue for a little while. Incidentally I find that my early 19th C device is somewhat better at its predictions that other sources. In other news there was a mini PPUK impromptu get together yesterday which was the perfect way to end a Spring day in the capital.

Oak just poking its leaves out.
Last spring we were drowned whilst building the garage foundations. This spring has been far too warm for putting up the green oak cladding, although I have.
Superb spring in the garden, I do hope this is not also our summer.

Looks fantastic Ivor. Gardening is a mystery to me. I keep changing things and make small improvements, but i don't think I have the right balance of evergreens, woody shrubs and perennials. I think I have too many perennials, so there is no framework. I can't be bothered with annuals apart from some herbs like basil and tarragon.

Your garden looks wonderful Ivor It reminds me that I should post some current pics of ours, which is gradually being restored to how it was before the previous owner allowed it to become overgrown. The wisteria is is on the verge of looking amazing (imho :wink: ) with new buds opening daily, although as yet only a fraction of the hundreds have started to blossom forth.....smells very fragrant too!

Gosh, Ivor, your garden is fantastic! Knowing nothing at all about plants, I might save that picure on my PC so that when I get around to starting on the garden, which at the moment still looks like a builders yard, I can look at that picture and say "Like that one!"

We saw the first house martins last week here in South Norfolk but our resident swifts have not returned as yet. That's usually sometime in May.

A friend near Diss reported their swallows were back last week.

Yes, we have had swallows for about a week now, although they don't seem to have decided where to build yet - still going through the LBC process I expect
But it's interesting that (based on our tiny sample!) the ash is out before the oak in the east and the oak is ahead in the west.
Training for what by the way? And next time, please call in!

We have way too many pigeons if anyone is interested :roll:. Free to a good home. They roost in an oak tree directly over all my garden equipment and leave their mark :evil:. Oak leaves just coming out by the way. No ash in the garden.
