Just a bit of fun really, but where else can you watch a live video of our Grade II listed heritage?

Seems strange that its been listed.......

The original zebra crossing, where the photograph was taken, was moved several metres for traffic management reasons more than 30 years ago, and no original features remain.

That's a bit like a Georgian house being rebuilt completely following a fire, in a different place, in the 1980's......would that be listed?

The story that it's not in the original location isn't correct, as there's a hydrant or drain cover in the road surface visible in the album cover photo which still exists in the same location. (That's the most obscure bit of "historic building" research anyone's ever likely to do).

EH have previously stated (despite abundant evidence to the contrary, and listed examples) that paving and similar surfaces are not "construction" and therefore can't be listed. If a minister needs a silly PR story, however, the rules can be bent to breaking point...

That's interesting Gareth, I thought it was moved (slightly) many years ago. I just found this article about it - not definitive proof, of course, but certainly indicative of how the story arose.

Unfortunately, I don't have my copy of the LP to hand, but if you can identify the hydrant/drain cover in question you could kill the story once and for all.

The Abbey Road Studios building is remarkably incongruous, for a recording studio. It's a pleasant Georgian house which looks as if it might have been a vicarage, or some such. I speak modestly as one who... ahem... recorded there before those upstarts, The Beatles.

However, despite the tensions within the group at the time, I reckon Abbey Road was their best album by far. I had an original vinyl copy, but it was stolen by a young lady. She came in through the bathroom window.
