Period venue

Hello,
Somehow I have been tasked with finding a venue in the North Dorset/Wilts border area for our management team to have an all day meeting. It's not an area I know well, and we need something pretty cheap and not posh because we are a charity. But I'd like something a bit quirky. I did think about a village hall but as the event is at the beginning of October and as it will involve a lot of sitting around we'd need to be warm and have reasonably comfy chairs. Does any one have any bright ideas/know of a good location? Thanks. Vicky

Hi Vicky,

It might be a bit far but there is a 'Conference Centre' at Walwin House, a former boarding house at Sexey's School in Bruton (near Wincanton) where I coach cricket. It can accomodate about 25 maximum and I'm sure the school would be flexible regarding cost, especially if no catering was involved - it's unused most of the time, I suspect you could name your price.



The glass fronted little building between the houses is the conference room.

Other than that I'm struggling to think of anything 'quirky' and cheap. There's Holbrook House in Wincanton but that might be pricey and again a bit far west - http://www.holbrookhouse.co.uk or how about a skittle alley in a nice village pub?! Maybe a bit chilly in October.

The charity I work for is based in a grade I country house so we're spoilt when it comes to beautiful surroundings.
