Bit of a one-sided report though. Or did the people who distributed the campaigning leaflets not wish to be interviewed?

Those who distributed the leaflet remain annoymous and are labelled as cowards on the local blog!!! Many bloggers are trying to provoke re-action from the Chamber of Trade, there is none--business is business!!!
It remains an interesting contrast with the Town as a whole!

The phrase "hate campaign" seems somewhat pejorative. So far as I was able to glimpse, the leaflet claimed that the requisite planning consent for the business had not been sought, the shop sign did not comply with local constraints and the required safe disposal system for needles and blood was not in place.
If those assertions are wrong, it shouldn't be difficult for the proprietor to demonstrate this. If they're correct, then the leaflet is perfectly justified.
Either way, it doesn't sound like a "hate campaign" to me.

I entirely agree that such claims are very serious matters, but I can't agree that distributing anonymous leaflets is a justifiable way to deal with the matter.
The claims seems to relate to licencing matters and, as such, would be better addressed to the local council. They could then investigate the matter and make a formal statement confirming or denying each claim - which, as you rightly point out, should be quite simple to determine. If they turn out to be true then the council should take the appropriate action.
Simply distributing anonymous leaflets may not constitute a 'hate campaign' but it is surely mischievious at best and libellous at worst - which might account for the anonymity.

The outside of the shop is quite subtle. They need the relevant permissions to operate from the council, if they haven't got those then the leaflet producers should be complaining to the council - I'd be surprised if they were operating illegally though, as they were quite willing to be filmed for a news report!
As for it "not being right for Ampthill" - well, that's personal opinion only, surely? If it's not right for the town then market forces will dictate that it doesn't survive for very long due to lack of trade. Simple.

All this talk of a new shop bringing the tone of the town down - I'm sure I remember the Ampthill Mob being a pretty dodgy bunch, and that was back in the 1970's...... :idea:

Tee hee, thank you for your comments Folks, I went to see the young lady today offering support from the Chamber, poor lass she had just received another hate mail. I hope it stops soon, meanwhile the Town can bask in the added publicity with one or two retailers telling me they have had people in their shops who'd not been to the Town before!!

My barber in Bungay has just rented out the back room of his shop to a tattooist. I commented to him (the barber), while having my monthly SBAS, that I hadn't yet seen anybody going into the tattoo parlour, and I couldn't imagine that Bungay would offer much custom to a shop like that.
He replied, "Oh, you'd be surprised. And people will show parts of their body to their tattooist that they'd think twice about showing to their doctor!"

Don't be so fuddy-duddy. Just cast caution to the wind and take the plunge with a small tasteful tattoo. Something like the one below perhaps, then work your way up to somethng more extreme.
PS: I should add that I've never understood the attraction of tattoos and that wild horses couldn't drag me anywhere close to someone wielding a vibrating needle!
