Period swords

The lovely one in the Richardson sale Joss posted about went for more than Chris wanted to pay - I suppose £200 or £300 would be ideal. If anyone does spot a late 18th or early 19th C sword, preferably with its scabbard, of the British cavalry type, at that price, please let me know!

We are also looking for an antique bicorn hat, no tin necessary, hopefully from the 19th C but early 20th would do.

These items will be for the tented Campaign Room which is nearing completion.

We have a couple of walking canes from him ( with elephants on ) which I put in the antique cast iron umbrella stand in our hallway. That was how I got the invite to the BADA fair we went to.

So, you are looking for a sword--pity, J's Father had a sword handed down through the Naval side of the family--unfortunately it went down to the bottom of the sea in WW2!! J's father had to buy another for J but it's not vintage!! Happy hunting!

You've got some lovely family history Joss.Yes, the sale was fascinating - I could have spent £200,000 without blinking and it would just have got 10 nice pictures. I thought, overall, that the estimates were low-ish and things went for vastly more. I wonder who bought? I envy them and hope the things are going to very beautiful homes in this country, but I doubt that.

Hi Joce, I watched some of the sale online & noticed that many of the Architectural drawings seemed to be knocked out to the same paddle number. It was a painfully slow auction whilst the online and phone bids came in, plus the auctioneer on Tuesday having a cough--poor chap!!

Yup, the sword went down with The Ark Royal, fortuitously J's Father was up in the air flying a swordfish--- he told me that he looked down and thought ''there goes my sword''!!

Just a quick sword update for anyone else that might like a browse of all things military. Yes, they sometimes take booths at fairs, so even if they are not in their shop they are accessible.

Bank Hol was a lovely sword purchasing time for us - the Lanes Armoury in Brighton is spectacular. We couldn't quite run to one from the Regency but as usual the Edwardians came up trumps, this is a naval dress sword that would have gone to WW1 in a ship - it wouldn't have been used in combat.

Nice the initials are scratched on:

It's going to be mounted in the space on the back wall between the two wall lights, in a crossed shape, with a bicorn hat in the top V as you would see a skull and crossbones. If anyone has any ideas for types of brass hook I'd be grateful - I need to steer Chris away from mounting it on a rather naff wooden trophy board he has it in mind to order.

The campaign room is almost finished, just need the bicorn hat and an appropriate naval map or two.
