From the look of the wall sockets I'd guess they are US one cent 'pennies'. Interesting idea though.
As I was having a quiet afternoon, I checked the size of a US penny coin and it turns out to require 2304 pennies per sq yd, or $23.04 which is currently about £18.43/yd2 - so cheaper than many floor coverings.
And before you ask, a UK penny version would come in at £24.27/yd2, so quite a bit more expensive though still pretty reasonable.
 well I think that's gorgeous and quite inspired!
Nice calculations FF!
Another idea I heard recently was someone who deliberately chucks all small change into a big jar all year round, and then at Christmas that pays for the treats and maybe an outing - not the presents though.
So sparkly and lovely! Would love to do that in our London flat which is a modern conversion of an old Viccy building. It would look fab there! Here I think it wouldn't work though they would do very similar things with shells and pebbles in the Georgian period.
Mims - it must be an established idea then, it makes a lot of sense! Nice bit of Christmas budgeting! 8)
