I received the following request because we are members of The Bath Preservation Trust ( they run the museum at 1 Royal Crescent among other things ) http://www.bath-preservation-trust.org.uk/. Not really up to speed with the issues, but on the basis that there may be people lurking who are intersted or could help I thought I would pass it along.


Fuller's Earthworks site
Request for information for the Public Enquiry

As Members are aware there is currently a public inquiry concerning planning enforcement on the Former Fuller's Earthworks site, Fosse Way, Odd Down.

We are keen to hear, urgently, from any Members who may be able to give eye-witness accounts of the use of the site between 1999 and 2002.
This may take the form of a verbal statement (‘I used to walk my dog every day…etc’) or the form of any photographs you may have taken at that time for which you can vouch for a date. This would be used by us or others as evidence to determine the facts about the use of the site during this period during the public inquiry process.

If you can do this please contact Caroline Kay (ckay@bptrust.org.uk) as a matter of urgency.

I knew you'd be a useful person to know, Milady. Our bath is very rough and uncomfortable to sit in - the vitreous enamel has deteriorated to the point where it's like sandpaper. Do you have any recommendations?

I wonder why the Fuller's Earth Works are now disused. There's still a reasonable demand for Fuller's Earth for things like cosmetics and cat litter :roll:. If the bed of FE has been worked out, then surely it's reasonable to look for an alternative use for the land.

Suppose I should look up the background of the dispute about the site, I vaguely recall it has something to do with aggregates for road building, but may be completely mistaken.

Edit, seems a complicated case involving a non approved change of use to its current use for all sorts of waste recycling.

I'm afraid I can't help with what the Odd Down fuller's earth works was used for 1999-2002, but 1899-1902 it looked like this, any chance they might put it back? Please?

Ok chaps, what is an annular windmill and are they rare?

An annular windmill is a windmill with an annular (circular) sail. Though commonly used on smallish windpumps, at the scale of the example at Haverhill they were very rare (half a dozen), and there aren't any left in England. They started well in light winds but their efficiency was limited at "normal" working wind speeds because of self-created turbulence, and they had a huge number of moving parts, any one of which could go wrong.
